Why Men are “Stuck on Stupid” when it comes to getting Mental Therapy Services

Men often think that getting mental therapy services requires them to take a couple of notches off their “Man-Card” because it is a sign of weakness. However this is where men are “Stuck on Stupid”.

Let me prove my point by using an analogy that all men understand. All real men work out in some form to acquire or to maintain our muscles. Occasionally we will injury one of our muscles for example like our shoulder. The smart men will immediately go get physical therapy to stop the injury from turning into a long term injury or disability. Therefore getting back to their original strength. The other guys who are “Stuck on Stupid” will think they are macho enough to tough it out and just keep exercising through the pain and that it will eventually go away with time. This “Stuck on Stupid” attitude usually leads to a rotator cuff tear that will require some shoulder surgery to repair and will require one year of physical therapy to completely recover from. Sometimes they will not completely come back to their originally strength therefore having limitations with using their shoulder for life.

Our brain is one of our largest and probably the most important muscle we have in our body. So when our brain muscle is injured it requires therapy as well. So now instead of physical therapy it requires mental therapy. It only makes sense.

So if you get therapy for your injured muscle. Why wouldn’t you get therapy for your brain? Why is it considered acceptable to get therapy for your injured muscle that you know is weak without feeling any less macho? Yet at the same time why would getting therapy for our most important muscle, your brain, be considered vulnerable and weak. That’s right it is just being “Stuck on Stupid” and not the smart thing to do. Like trying to work through the pain with your shoulder. It only cause your recovery to be longer and cause more injury in the long run.

Maybe a less painful way to get mental therapy is by using online therapy. It doesn’t require you to go to a doctor’s office. It can be done from the convenience of your home and is more private discreet counseling than traditional therapy services. All you need is a laptop computer, tablet or smart phone with an internet connection or cell signal to connect online.
